Cyberpunk 2077 gets a free Edgerunners 2 update on October 22, 2026
Update 2.5 lands on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series a day after the anime's season 2 premiere, with a Switch 2 version to follow and patch notes due on a livestream.
CD PROJEKT RED will release Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 on October 22, 2026, a free patch the studio calls the Edgerunners 2 Update. It arrives on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version "will follow shortly", with no date given. The announcement came on October 20, 2026, the day the second season of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix.
What the studio has said so far
In its press release, CD PROJEKT RED says the update will "introduce a range of new items and features to the game, including content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2." That is the whole list for now. The studio has not published patch notes, a download size or a list of new quests, and the details that circulate before then are not confirmed by it.
The studio has scheduled a special episode of its REDstreams show for October 21, 2026, to give a first look at the update, on Twitch, YouTube and Steam. Eurogamer reports it starts at 5 p.m. CEST. According to the press release, official patch notes are due the same day.
The anime behind it
Edgerunners 2 is a standalone story set about four years after the first series, and all ten episodes are on Netflix. CD PROJEKT RED made it with the Japanese studio TRIGGER. Kai Ikarashi directs, and Bartosz Sztybor is showrunner, story writer and producer. It follows a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a netrunner from the Snake Nation gang.
The pairing follows the first Edgerunners, which sent players back to Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 itself launched on December 9, 2020, and its Steam page listed about 898,000 user reviews on October 21, 2026.
What to watch for
The patch notes should settle what the update contains, how big it is and whether it touches the base game's systems or only adds items. The Switch 2 date is still open, and the studio has said only that it will come soon after the other platforms.
