Nintendo Switch 2 launches worldwide
Nintendo's new console arrived on June 5, 2025 at $449.99, with Mario Kart World as its headline launch game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 went on sale around the world on June 5, 2025, eight years after the original Switch. In the United States it costs $449.99, or $499.99 in a bundle with Mario Kart World.
What changed
The new console keeps the hybrid idea: play on the TV through the dock or take it with you. The screen grows to 7.9 inches at 1080p with support for up to 120 Hz and HDR, and storage rises to 256 GB. The Joy-Con 2 controllers now attach with magnets instead of rails, and each one can be used as a mouse by sliding it across a table.
A new C button opens GameChat, which lets friends talk and share their screens while they play.
The launch line-up
Mario Kart World led the launch, bringing an open world between its race tracks. Donkey Kong Bananza followed on July 17, 2025. Most original Switch games also run on the new console.
Nintendo said the Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units in its first four days, the fastest start of any Nintendo console.
